626 Landmark Foundation

About Us

The building was completed in 1929, and the Woman's Athletic Club of Chicago obtained full title to the land in 1980 after purchasing the land lease.  By 1993 the Club owned the property outright.  In the landmark designation, the building's exterior elevations and roofs were identified as "significant historical and architectural features," and it was determined that they should be "preserved, protected,  enhanced, rehabilitated, and perpetuated."

The 626 Landmark Foundation was established in the year 2000 by the Board of Directors of the Woman's Athletic Club of Chicago.  Its mission is to promote public appreciation of the building's landmark features, to support preservation efforts, and to inform and educate the public.   The Foundation raises tax-deductible funds to support these goals.
